What to do in Calella de Palafrugell?

1. Cap Roig Castle

It is an eclectic and unique construction built in the early 1930s by an exiled Russian colonel. A beautiful castle today declared a Site of Cultural Interest.

In addition, a spectacular botanical garden was designed in the vast expanse of land that surrounds it, with hundreds of species. An idyllic corner that you cannot miss because from it there are fantastic views of the Mediterranean.

2. Lighthouse of Sant Sebastià

This lighthouse, dating from 1857, is one of the most powerful in Spain. It is located on a small headland surrounded by rugged cliffs.  And also from here you can enjoy the most beautiful views of the sea and take beautiful photographs.

3. Cala Estreta

If there is something that distinguishes Calella de Palafrugell, it is its beautiful coves. The Estreta cove is one of the most popular and  its calm waters will allow you to enjoy an unforgettable day. It is a very nice place, especially if you visit in low season.

4. Cala El Golfet

This spectacular cove is located at the foot of the Cap Roig botanical garden. Surprisingly, this cove is one of the least known, yet its beauty is unmatched. It is a rustic and peaceful place, ideal to enjoy a quiet day at the beach in its turquoise waters.

Curiosities of Calella de Palafrugell

It is said that the famous singer Joan Manuel Serrat composed his Mediterranean song in the old Hotel Batlle. It is not surprising that this is true, as the views of the Costa Brava from this location are extraordinary.

In one way or another, music is an important part of Calella de Palafrugell. In recent years it has become well known for being the scene of concerts and other types of cultural events.

One of the most important events is known as the Cap Roig Festival. A music, dance and theater festival that takes place in the Cap Roig botanical garden. Since its first edition, in 2001, international artists such as Elton John, Simple Minds, Pet Shop Boys, Alejandro Sanz and David Bisbal have passed through it.

Another of the most popular cultural events that takes place in Calella de Palafrugell is the Cantada d’Havaneres, which has already turned half a century. Thousands of people gather on the beaches to hear both fans and renowned groups perform songs of this genre. A genre, by the way, very popular in Catalonia and in general in fishing villages.

And, in addition to all this, Calella is also the scene of the Costa Brava Jazz Festival. A contest open both to established figures of this musical genre and to others who are beginning to make their way.
