The best known is the mausoleum itself, crowned by a spectacular dome. But the Taj Mahal is, in reality, an  architectural complex in which, in addition, there are other buildings, a mosque and wonderful gardens.

The way to get to the Taj Mahal will depend, to a large extent, on where in the country you arrive in on your trip. Agra has an airport, although there are not many flights that land in Agra, so they can be expensive and difficult to find. However, if you are flying into New Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi or Khajurao, some of the best known cities in the country, it will be easy to get to Agra by domestic plane.

The train is  one of the best options, not only because of its price, but because while you travel you will be able to see the landscape and connect with the inhabitants of the country. A great way to immerse yourself in traditional India. The journey, depending on the area you are in, may last between three and five hours.

The bus or the car are not the  most recommended options if you travel alone, but if you go in a group it can be a lot of fun to enjoy the busy and strange roads of India. You will be able to observe the landscape and drive in a country where there is no shortage of people wherever you go.

This complex is so large that you may not know where to start. When you arrive at the Taj Mahal you will see that there are several entrances through which you can access:

  • The southern entrance: it  is, obviously, oriented to the south and faces Mumtazabad. It is not the most chosen since you have to wander around Agra to discover it but it will be a great option if there is a queue at the other entrances. Few know about this access.
  • The east entrance: it  is, next to the previous one, the one that is furthest from the monument. It is oriented to Fatehabad and is the access from which to see the show when there is a full moon.
  • West entrance: it  is the main entrance and, therefore, the one where you will find the longest queue, but the easiest to find. You can walk or take a tuk-tuk to the door.

Once you have crossed it, the imposing mausoleum stands before you, majestic, proud and strong. White marble will seem even more impressive than you could have imagined. However, if you stop to look at it at different times you will see that it changes color. One more peculiarity.

Even if the day is cloudy when you visit, it also brings a touch of color to the building. Don’t be in a hurry and enjoy this palace at different times of the day to take home some impressive photos.
