Strolling through the most charming neighborhoods of Seville

Seville is a city full of charm that has neighborhoods full of light and mystery.  Neighborhoods with their own identity and a lively atmosphere. We are going to tour the Andalusian capital stopping at some of its most significant neighborhoods. Are you joining us?

Seville is divided by one of the most important rivers in Spain, which also happens to be the only navigable one, the Guadalquivir. The boat ride on this fabulous and historic riverbank is very pleasant and gives us a first glimpse of the city.

This town, always open to the traveler, fell in love with painters who reflected it in their works, writers who described it in their novels and poems, singers who transmitted its charms to other places and dancers who took it around the world. Once there we will not want to leave for fear of forgetting its smell of orange blossom and that light that makes it a unique and different place.

It is known by all that this city bewitches and dazzles everyone who knows it. Its varied and colorful neighborhoods waste the joy of its people, friendly and talkative, full of grace and salt. Interacting with them will be something totally natural and even very appealing, since the Sevillians show great sociability and a very open character towards the outsider.

Walking through any of its narrow streets full of pots in which beautiful flowering geraniums are planted will catch us. The same will happen when these are replaced by roses. And a real pleasure is to sit quietly and unhurriedly to eat something in one of its typical taverns, accompanied by a sweet Andalusian wine.

The neighborhood of Santa Cruz, one of the most popular

Santa Cruz is one of the best known Sevillian areas. Formerly this area was only inhabited by Jews. Fall in love with strolling through its narrow streets lined with white-painted houses, seeing its peaceful courtyards  and getting lost in its curious passages that end in small and beautiful squares, such as the Plaza de las Tres Cruces.

The tourist can take advantage of the journey to make a stop at its magnificent Gothic-style cathedral, located in the Plaza del Triunfo. And, of course, you have to dedicate time to the  most renowned monument in the city, the Giralda. From its highest part we can admire a magnificent panoramic view.

Likewise, it is also pleasant to approach the Reales Alcázares, which is accessed through the Patio de Banderas. And another of the most prominent corners of this neighborhood is the Callejón del Agua.

As you can see, our visit to this neighborhood will lead us to most of the most significant enclaves of Seville. It should be noted that this was the suburb where the painter Bartolomé Esteban Murillo was born.

This expansion was at the time the official port of this urban nucleus. In fact, for several successive centuries it was the most powerful and influential on the planet due to the fluidity of its traffic and the excessive level of commerce that took place there. Located in the old town, it was occupied by very diverse people. It is home to one of the monuments most photographed by hikers, La Torre del Oro. This tower was built in the 12th century. In those days it used to serve as a place of defense.

Scholars assure that its name is related to the cladding that the tower had at the time and that gave off golden sparkles. However, there is a legend that the nickname came from the huge amounts of gold from the Indies that were kept inside.

On the banks of the Guadalquivir River is this illustrious Sevillian neighborhood, reputed throughout the planet for having been the cradle of artists of unparalleled value in terms of flamenco musical tradition.

Likewise, some of the most famous Andalusian ceramic workshops in the region have their factories in this area, specifically in Calle de la Alfarería. In them, both the earthenware and porcelain are treated in an exquisite way. Its operators work with mud and clay in an exceptional way.

With regard to mysticism and spirituality, all the people of Triana and a large part of the inhabitants of all Seville come here to deliver their prayers and prayers to Esperanza de Triana, an image that awakens deep devotions.

There are three of the main neighborhoods of Seville, but when visiting the Andalusian capital, it is also worth visiting others such as Santa Cruz, La Macarena or San Bartolomé.
