How the Pinnacles Desert originated

The origin of these limestone rock structures dates back some thirty thousand years, forming when the sea withdrew from the area, leaving sediments composed of the mineral skeletons of marine fauna in its bed.

The material, accumulated by the rain at the bottom of the dunes, ended up compacting and forming the pinnacles, discovered by the wind with the continuous advance and retreat of the sand. And it seems that with the passage of time these structures appear and disappear.

A desert by the ocean

The Pinnacles desert area is washed by the Indian Ocean, which gives it an additional attraction, because it borders the park with secluded white sand beaches, excellent for swimming, snorkeling and surfing. You will also be able to appreciate animals such as emus, cockatoos and much more diversity of Australian fauna.
