Knowing that old buildings will once again have new life and usefulness is always great news that is greeted with joy and rejoicing. This happens with the Trafalgar lighthouse, in the Andalusian province of Cádiz, in Spain, which will soon be a charming and elegant luxury hotel.

The Trafalgar lighthouse is located specifically in the town of Barbate, and has been standing for more than 150 years. It is not strange that, given the beauty of the area, they want to give new life to those beaches and beautiful corners of the Spanish coast.

Lighthouses of Spain Project

The conversion of the Trafalgar lighthouse into a luxury hotel is part of a project promoted by the Ministry of Public Works and which has become known as Lighthouses of Spain.

As its name suggests, this project tries to develop new leisure activities around the dozens of lighthouses that are located throughout the country and that nowadays have no use and are in a state of abandonment or show other possibilities of exploitation.

In this sense, other lighthouses are already being reused for various activities. For example, the Pancha Island lighthouse in Lugo stands out, at the entrance to the Ribadeo estuary, which is being converted into a hotel and will continue to be used as maritime signaling.

We must add to the project the creation of three interpretation centers on the battle of Trafalgar, the lighthouses in general and the Tómbolo de Trafalgar, together with a restoration area and visits to the lighthouse to learn from the lower levels to the lens and the tower Almenara, which will also be recovered.

In addition, this project includes landscaped areas, promotion of the use of bicycles in contact with the environment, recovery of irrigation with wastewater and activities that respect nature and rest for residents and guests.

At Cape Trafalgar we find the Caños de Meca, a small charming town that has kept its rustic and coastal touch for centuries to the delight of visitors who repeat year after year.

We also find a paradisiacal coast such as Marisucia beach, with a predominance of fine yellow sand that enjoys great flora and fauna among its waters and has beautiful sunsets with a unique twilight in Spain.

In addition, the Trafalgar lighthouse area is rich in reefs. Platforms that surround the cape and that over time have caused circular formations that make it seem that a wise sculptor wanted to capture Cadiz art for posterity.

From the promontory where the Trafalgar lighthouse is located, we find wonderful views that reach the distant white town of Conil. What was once a Roman temple dedicated to the god Juno is today a beautiful tower that commemorates the history of the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 and presides over the horizon.

Finally, we recommend visiting the great beach. A gigantic piece of sandy coastline with crystal blue waters that delight lovers of sports such as surfing or kitesurfing in Cádiz and around the world.

The Trafalgar lighthouse has been converted into a small luxury hotel with apartments and garden areas that still lend more charm to this beautiful corner of Cádiz, on the Atlantic coast of Spain.
